The Indianapolis Colts, of course, studied up on Penn State tight end Tyler Warren during the pre-draft process and had him in for an official visit as well.

However, to know that he was the guy for them, all it really took was watching his performance last season against USC.

"That was as dominant a game that you saw from any offensive player in college football this year," Chris Ballard said via the team site.

On the road for that game, with the USC defense knowing where the ball was going, they still couldn't stop Warren. In that game alone, Warren was targeted 20 times, catching 17 of those passes for 224 yards with one touchdown, per PFF.

Warren's 17 receptions became a new Penn State record, and his 224 receiving yards in that game were the second-most in school history.

After selecting Warren, Ballard mentioned Warren's ability to impact the middle of the field as a pass catcher and how difficult he can be to defend with his combination of size and sure hands. As you can guess, both of those abilities were on display in this game.

Warren would have some other impressive performances throughout the 2024 season, which included 146 yards against Bowling Green, 127 vs. Purdue, 102 vs. Minnesota, and 135 yards over Penn State's two playoff games.

But even if the Colts hadn't watched those other performances, they already knew the player and the unique skill set they were getting because of that game against USC.

"Look, all you've got to do is put the USC game on. I didn't need the playoffs," Ballard said. "I mean, he had done enough one game to go like, 'Holy cow, man. This guy's got some unique stuff in him.'"
