Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided the latest information on Tyler Glasnow’s injury after the starter was pulled from his latest outing.

Glasnow made his start on Wednesday in Houston, though he ended up leaving following the first inning.

He had just celebrated his 1,000th career strikeout when he stepped on the field for the second inning and felt something in his back that led to him getting pulled.

The injury was deemed back spasms by Glasnow, who has dealt with them since growing up as a teenager.

After Wednesday’s game, manager Dave Roberts downplayed the injury.

“I think that, given it’s something that’s recurring, and then kind of looking at the history, it hasn’t been an IL situation. It’s been more of, we push him back a couple days, two, three days,” Roberts said.

“I don’t expect it to be an IL situation. I don’t think he does either, and we’ll go from there.”

On Friday, before the Dodgers’ game against the Braves, Roberts said that the MRI showed “nothing really significant” and the team is in a “holding pattern” to see how things go over the coming days.

The Dodgers’ back-up plan for Glasnow

The Dodgers will activate Blake Snell on Saturday, giving the team another starter to potentially skip Glasnow’s next start and give him more time to recover.

Additionally, the Dodgers have Paul Gervase, another tall right-hander, on the taxi squad for the homestand.

As a taxi-squad player, Gervase is not officially on the active roster, but he is available if the team makes an impromptu move.

If another injury arises or the Dodgers put Glasnow on the IL, Gervase will indeed get activated, but until then, he will be floating with the team.

Glasnow explains his history of back pains

With regards to Glasnow’s back issue, it is not the first time that he has dealt with it. He missed time in the past due to a similar kind of problem.

“It kind of just gives out. I’ve gotten it since high school. Being tall, I guess. I get it a couple times a year,” Glasnow said.

“Just a warm-up pitch and it gave out. I tried to throw another one and it just was like too hard to bend over. But it’s not too serious. I’ve had this a few times. Just one of those things where it’s thrown out. Once it feels better, it feels better. It shouldn’t be too long.”

The Dodgers, until Glasnow either makes progress or does not, will be forced to wait and see how he feels in the coming days.
