Detroit Lions tight end Tyler Conlklin passed his physical, clearing the way for him to come off the physically unable to perform list and return to practice Thursday, Aug. 6.

Conklin missed time this spring with a strained calf and the Lions placed him on the PUP list to start training camp.

He signed this offseason to be the team's No. 3 tight end after stints with the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and Los Angeles Chargers.

The Lions have been dealing with injuries at the tight end position all of camp.

Sam LaPorta was cleared to practice in late July after he missed the end of last season following back surgery, but the Lions placed undrafted rookie tight end Miles Kitselman on injured reserve Wednesday with a leg injury, and veteran Anthony Firkser fractured his fibula in practice Monday and will miss the year.

Conklin, who caught seven passes for 101 yards in 13 games with the Chargers last season, has been working on a side field with trainers in practice in recent days.

The Lions also re-signed receiver Tarik Black (Michigan) on Wednesday.
