Anytime a player switches teams, having a familiar face on the new team is really helpful in creating new bonds and relationships. Washington Commanders wide receiver Treylon Burks was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. After an injury-plagued three years, the Titans placed Burks on injured reserve ahead of the 2025 season, eventually waiving him in early October.
On October 17, the Commanders picked up Burks and added him to the receiving ranks after Terry McLaurin battled injuries for the first time in his career. Burks remains on the roster today, and this offseason, he was joined by former teammate Chig Okonkwo.
Okonkwo was also drafted by the Titans in 2022, but they let him hit free agency this year, and the Commanders didn't waste any time scooping him up. Four years after being drafted to the same team, the two former teammates are back on the same side. Okonkwo shared a then and now video this week.
The video tags Burks from Okonkwo's account and starts off showing the two players in their Titans' uniforms on June 13, 2022, then switches to the two players in their new burgundy and gold threads. Four years apart, same players, new team.
Suffice it to say that the Titans did not know how to use either player, and Burks was horribly hindered by coaching changes that stalled his development, along with injuries. Under Dan Quinn and David Blough, these two will have a renewed sense of purpose in 2026. Okonkwo is the perfect replacement for Zach Ertz, and Burks has a ton of potential to exploit with the right coaching.
Both players are determined to find success in their new home, and having a familiar face to show you the ropes certainly doesn't hurt.
