SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Renee St. Pierre was the first player off the bench last season for the Marshwood High School girls basketball team.

This season, the senior forward is being asked to provide that same spark she did last year, but now from the starting lineup.

St. Pierre scored 11 of her career-high 22 points in the fourth quarter of Class B Marshwood's 56-48 win over Class A Deering. She was named Tuesday's Seacoast Standout Athlete of the Day.

"She was able to really shine for us, particularly in the fourth quarter," Marshwood head coach Angie Littlefield said. "She really built confidence as the game went along, and started attacking the rim and feeling confident from the perimeter. That's the kind of play we need from her. It was nice to see her play that way, she really gave us the boost we needed.

St. Pierre, who was from 6-for-8 from the free-throw line, scored three points in the first quarter, and four in both the second and third, before her 11-point fourth.

"This is the level we are asking her to play at this year," Littlefield said. "For her to have a game like this is important to show her that she's capable of it, and something we need from her in every game."

Littlefield said scoring a career-high number in points in the fourth game of the season sets the bar for the rest of the season.

"Hopefully, she just uses this as a confidence boost rather than her putting pressure on herself to replicate," Littlefield said. "Sometimes (games like this) aren't going to happen. If she just keeps playing her game, the shots will come."
