CENTERVILLE — Grace Pence doesn't need a whole lot of run support, entering Tuesday with the lowest ERA of any Iowa high school softball pitcher this season.

Addie Pearson didn't waste time giving Pence plenty of run support in the very first inning of third-ranked (3A) Albia's toughest South Central Conference road test of the season. Pearson pounded the first of her two home runs for the Lady Dees, driving in the first two of her seven RBIs, as Albia rolled to an 11-0 win in four innings against No. 13 (3A) Centerville at the Lakeview Sports Complex.

Pearson put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, delivering a grand slam to close out a three-hit night. Aliyah Hood added two hits, including a double, while driving in one run and scoring twice for the Lady Dees.

As for Pence, the Albia senior pitcher allowed just two hits to the Redettes over four innings. Pence, struck out nine of the 15 batters faced, bringing her state-leading total to 243 strikeouts this season while lowering her state-best ERA to 0.12 improving to a 19-0 in the pitching circle.

Third-ranked Albia, now a program-best 23-0 overall this season with an 11-0 SCC record, hosts Clarke for Senior Night at Lizzie Alexander Memorial Field on Thursday. Centerville (13-5, 8-3 SCC) steps out of conference on Wednesday to host Melcher-Dallas.

No. 15 (2A) Cardinal 2, Fairfield 1

ELDON — Maclain Hickenbottom edged Leah Helmick in a thrilling area pitcher's duel on Tuesday, forcing Haylee Eklund to groundout with the Helmick standing on second base representing the tying run as the 15th-ranked Comets held off the Trojans.

Hickenbottom worked six scoreless innings against the Trojans, allowing just four hits during that span, while striking out 10 batters in the contest. Helmick allowed just one earned run over six innings on six hits, striking out three batters while drawing a walk in the top of the seventh off Hickenbottom, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate.

Ireland Cranston drove in Vanessa Kessel with a two-out RBI single for Fairfield, breaking up Hickenbottom's bid for a complete-game shutout. Summer LaRue's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth snapped a scoreless tie, giving the Comets the lead, before a fielding error on a groundball hit by Autumn Sertterh brought in Kyra LaRue with the decisive run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Fairfield (12-10) hosts Washington in Southeast Conference action on Thursday. Cardinal (11-6) hosts Mount Pleasant in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday.

Pella 12, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 7

PELLA — Despite three hits from Lanie Batterson, including an opening-inning two-run double, the Rockets could not hold off the defending Class 4A state champions in a non-conference slugfest.

Lucy Carlson connected on a pair of extra-base hits, including a game-tying three-run homer in the third inning, for the Little Dutch. Stella Rhamy added a pair of run-scoring hits in the final four innings, including a tiebreaking two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

Sadie Jager added three hits for EBF in the contest, scoring twice. Kate Krause and Gabby Wade added RBI hits for the Rockets in the second inning, opening a 5-1 lead for EBF, while Adison Glosser singled in a run in the sixth before being thrown out trying to score on Jager's third hit.

EBF (10-15) hosts No. 15 (2A) Cardinal in South Central Conference action on Thursday.

Oskaloosa 5, Davis County 3

OSKALOOSA — Araceli Pilcher delivered a two-out tiebreaking bases-loaded single to left in the bottom of the fourth that, along with a fielding error, brought in three runs giving the Indians the lead for good at Jay Harms Field.

Three straight hits with two outs in the opening inning by Ally Batterson, Lydia Barker and Ashlyn Ollinger gave Davis County an early 2-0 lead. Hallie Husted and Lydia Dekraai opened the seventh inning with back-to-back hits, bringing the tying run to the plate, before Cylee Smith retired the next three Mustang hitters to clinch the win for the Indians.

Davis County (7-9) heads to Moulton-Udell on Wednesday.

Mediapolis 9, Pekin 1

PEKIN — Payton Harris and Delaney Griffith each connected on home runs, combining to drive in seven runs on three hits while scoring three combined runs for the Bullettes in a road win over the Panthers.

Kendra Schultz drove in Pekin's only run for the second straight night, bringing home Carlie Gambell with a two-out RBI double to center in the bottom of the third that pulled the Panthers within 2-1. Griffith answered with a one-out grand slam in the following inning, giving Mediapolis a five-run lead.

Pekin (7-12) heads to No. 13 (1A) Highland on Wednesday for a Southeast Iowa Superconference north division road test.

Holy Trinity 7, Van Buren County 3

KEOSAUQUA — Claire Crabtree's bases-clearing two-out double snapped a 3-3 tie, completing a seventh-inning comeback win for the Crusaders in a battle of Southeast Iowa Superconference south division hopefuls at the Ferguson Complex.

Teagan Sickels and Kayley Snowgren connected on a pair of run-scoring hits for the Warriors as part of a four-hit rally that put Van Buren County ahead in the bottom of the fourth. Sickels put the Warriors ahead with two outs in the sixth, driving a solo home run over the fence in left to snap a 2-2 tie.

Van Buren County (11-11, 4-4 SEI south) heads to Danville on Thursday.

Iowa Valley 11, Moravia 8

MORAVIA — Coley Housh came within a triple of hitting for the cycle, driving in five runs with three hits including a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth as the Mohawks could not overcome seven errors that allowed five unearned runs to score for the Tigers.

Moravia (8-16) hosts Diagonal on Wednesday in a doubleheader between the Bluegrass Conference schools.

Melcher-Dallas 12, Moulton-Udell 2

MOULTON — The Eagles narrowly missed matching the Saints with three runs in the opening inning of Monday night's Bluegrass Conference contest before a balanced effort allowed Melcher-Dallas to pull away.

Ashlyn Metz connected on a team-leading three hits for the Saints in the win, scoring twice, while Kelsey Reed added two hits and three runs driven in. Sophie Thomas singled and scored one of the two runs put on the board by the Eagles in the bottom of the first.

Moulton-Udell (0-13, 0-11 Bluegrass) steps out of conference to host Davis County on Wednesday.

Davis County 2, Fort Madison 1

BLOOMFIELD — Noah Sizemore delivered Davis County's latest late-inning clutch hit, bringing home Hudson Humphrey with a two-out walk-off RBI single to left in the bottom of the seventh just 24 hours after the Mustangs went 10 innings to pick up a come-from-behind conference road win at Albia.

Victor Milder delivered a two-out RBI single in the opening inning for the Mustangs, bringing home Hayden Bankson. Grant Husted picked up the win on the mound, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out a pair of batters.

Davis County (13-10) heads to Knoxville to take on the South Central Conference leaders in a key contest on Thursday.

No. 6 (1A) Sigourney 15, English Valleys 0

SIGOURNEY — Lincoln Power homered and drove in five runs as part of a three-hit night for the sixth-ranked Savages in a South Iowa Cedar League win.

Hunter Sellers and Ryker Van Den Heuvel, who went 3-3 at the plate, also connected on home runs for Sigourney, combining to drive in three runs while scoring twice. Landon Conrado doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice in support of Carver Russell who pitching a four-inning shutout against the Bears allowing three hits while striking out seven batters.

Sigourney (16-2, 11-1 SICL) heads to Montezuma for league play on Wednesday.

Centerville 15, Keokuk 5

CENTERVILLE — Abram Decena homered as part of a three-hit night for the Big Reds in the first of two games on a unique Senior Night at Pat Daugherty Field.

Decena drove in four runs and scored three more as Centerville rallied from a 5-3 deficit, scoring seven times in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. Jager White led the Big Reds with three hits while driving in four runs to match Decena and Rya Barnhart after being honored as part of Centerville's Class of 2026.

Carlisle 14, Centerville 4

CENTERVILLE — The Big Reds fell in the second game of the split Senior Night doubleheader, allowing 13 runs to the Wildcats in the opening three innings of the nightcap.

Decena continued to swing a hot bat, driving in four runs with a pair of hits including his team-leading sixth home run of the season. Mack Murdock added two hits, scoring one of Centerville's four runs in the bottom of the third.

Centerville (14-9) heads to Albia on Wednesday for a South Central Conference contest.

Moravia 11, Iowa Valley 1

MORAVIA — Carson Seals doubled twice, including a RBI two-base hit during a four-run opening inning as the Mohawks extended its winning streak to 12 straight games.

Zander Martin added two hits, including a double, while driving in three runs for Moravia. Kale Moore connected on a pair of hits, doubling and driving in two runs while scoring once and allowing just two hits to the Tigers on the mound striking out nine batters over five innings.

Moravia (17-4) returns to Bluegrass Conference play on Thursday hosting Lamoni on Senior Night.

Melcher-Dallas 6, Moulton-Udell 2

MOULTON — Leo Schrader connected on a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs for the Saints while striking out six M-U batters over six innings in a Bluegrass Conference clash.

Trayton Knowler connected on three hits for the Eagles, driving in Max Muszynski with an RBI single in the fourth to pull M-U within 4-1. Cameron Swarts added a two-out RBI hit for the Eagles in the seventh, bringing in Porter Kaster, before being thrown out trying to reach second base to end the contest.

Moulton-Udell (2-13, 2-11 Bluegrass) hosts Moravia on Friday in a conference battle of Appanoose County rivals.

Mediapolis 11, Pekin 10

PEKIN — Four walks, three hits and a key fielding error by Pekin aided a seventh-inning surge by the Bulldogs scoring seven runs in the final inning to erase Pekin's late 10-4 lead.

Henry Adam led the Panthers at the plate, doubling twice as part of a three-hit night while driving in five runs. Zandrik Allison added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs while scoring twice helping Pekin pull away with five runs in the third inning.

Pekin (12-3) hits the road to face Highland on Wednesday in a battle of the top two teams in the Southeast Iowa Superconference's south division.
