According to the Republic, those two guys were in for a predraft interview on Monday.

Just in case you think those predraft interviews are important. They can be. That interview was why we took Davis instead of Gerard Warren a couple of years ago.

Yes, and by far the majority of local posters AND draft experts were saying the Cards would go with Warren.

I said from the beginning that Kennedy should be the man. I have since had a few mixed feelings about maybe Robertson instead, but there are 2 things that make me a little queasy about him....his coming out early and some injury questions... Nothing major. But I still do think Kennedy should be our top pick.

Everyone talks about how the Cards should have taken Urlacher instead of Jones, Rogers instead of KVB, etc, etc, etc.
Well I'm sure glad they took Big instead of Warren. I wonder why it is that no one talks about choices like that as much?

I cant speak about picks prior to the team coming to Arizona, but I think Aeneas Williams was a hell of a pick at his slot. I also think taking Swann, with no college football experience, was one of the most ballsy picks I have seen just about any team ever make. I know he had an injury plagued career, and he lost a lot of fan support toward the end, but when healthy and motivated, he was the best DT I've ever watched.

Go Cards!!!

Cards Bringing in Six So Far

EVT reports that Suggs was already in and that Trufant, Kennedy, Kevin Williams, Simms and Bethel Johnson have been invited to visit as well. No doubt there will be more. Cards can bring in a total of 20.

Johnson is a Tyrone Calico type - so it tells you the Cards are at least more than casually interested in a big, dominant (albeit raw) WR.

And the interest in Simms suggests that Parsons (and possibly McCown down the road) will have competition for the #3 and eventually the #2 QB spot.

Trufant, Kennedy and Williams can suggest three things: (a) options at #6 should Suggs be off the board, (b) options at #6 instead of Suggs or (c) possibilities should the Cards trade down to around the #9 hole.

Hmmm.....Bethel Johnson?
I'm not familiar with him, so I did a quick check. He's listed at 4.3 in the 40....the fastest player in the draft.

That makes me think all the more, that the Cards are leaning towards a power running game, with speedy WR's to stretch the field.

I like that.

Bethel Johnson
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a skilled athlete with excellent body control and natural tools. Is very quick and has good speed. Gets open downfield and has some big-play flair. Is acrobatic; can make spectacular catches. Gets off the line with quickness and creates separation if going at full speed.

Weaknesses: Never reached potential in college. Missed almost entire 2001 season with a spleen injury. Runs sloppy routes and shows inconsistent hands. Seems lost or bored at times. Doesn't give a complete effort if blocking or is a secondary receiver. Doesn't run crisp routes and drops too many passes.

Bottom line: Johnson is an excellent athlete, but he is also an underachiever and there is concern about his durability. He will likely fall to the final few rounds if he is drafted at all.

Dan Pompei analysis
Sat out the 2001 season, but played well in '02. Is an explosive player with excellent speed. Has more potential many receivers who will be drafted ahead of him. Has an injury history. Ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at the Combine, and is rising up many draft boards.

OK...Here's my list for now. I agree with Capital Card in that my pick as the best is Eric Swann, followed in 2nd place by Aeneas Williams. The odd thing about that is that THEY WERE BOTH DRAFTED IN 1991!!! Swann in the first round Aeneas in the 3rd.
#3 = Eric Hill (1989);
#4 = Tim McDonald (1987)
#5 = Louis Sharpe (1982)

Big might eventually make that list, but I think its too soon to put him there yet.
..also this is based on my personal records which only go back to 1982.

I am going to start a new thread just for this.

Thank you sir. Texas schools had some pretty good receivers this year. You had Bethel Johnson at A&M and that Roy Williams cat down at UT.

Isn't Roy Williams the favorite to be the #1 pick in the '04 Draft?

One thing about Kennedy I do not think he will be much of a risk. He will be a starter for some NFL team this year.

The thing that scares me about Kennedy is every report says how good eh COULD be... if he can keep his weight down and stay on the field all game. No thanks. #6 for a guy good for 3 quarters? That moves Robertson ahead for me.

I like Trufant, but I honestly think the round 2 corners will be very, very good. So I prefer DL with that pick. Tackle or end. Of course we all know only one end is worth that pick.
