As the San Francisco Giants looked to avoid a sweep following Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, they turned to Trevor McDonald in hopes of finally breaking through against a club that had given them fits all season.

Entering Wednesday's matchup, the Giants had dropped eight straight games to Arizona.

The Giants finally put an end to that streak with a 6-4 victory as McDonald earned his third win of the season.

McDonald played a major role in the win, tossing six dominant innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five over 90 pitches, including 53 strikes. After Landen Roupp lasted only 2.2 innings in Tuesday's loss, McDonald's outing was a much-needed boost for a rotation that has struggled in recent games.

Ramos, Bericoto Spark the Giants' Offense

It wasn't until the fifth inning that the Giants broke the scoreless tie. Heliot Ramos launched a solo home run to center field, and two batters later, Victor Bericoto followed with a two-run homer to give San Francisco a 3-0 lead.

The Giants added more insurance in the sixth inning when Ramos delivered an RBI triple. It marked another encouraging performance from the outfielder, who has quickly become one of the Giants' most productive hitters since returning from the Injured List.

With Matt Chapman sidelined, the Giants have lacked right-handed depth in the lineup. Ramos' immediate impact since returning has been an encouraging development for an offense searching for consistency.

The momentum continued later in the inning as Jung Hoo Lee lined an RBI single to right field before Drew Cavanagh added another run to extend San Francisco's lead to 6-0 heading into the seventh inning.

Giants' Bats Show Signs of Progress

Offensively, it was one of the Giants' most complete performances in recent weeks. After struggling with runners in scoring position over the past several games, San Francisco went 3-for-5 in those situations while collecting 11 hits.

It was an encouraging performance for a lineup that has struggled to produce consistently this season and a positive step forward after several difficult offensive outings.

Bullpen Holds On Despite Walker's Rough Eighth

Following McDonald's strong outing, Erik Miller entered in relief and worked a clean seventh inning, striking out two batters to preserve the six-run advantage.

Arizona finally found life in the eighth inning against Ryan Walker. The right-hander ran into immediate trouble, allowing four hits and four earned runs on just 12 pitches without recording an out.

The difficult outing raised his ERA to 7.06 and continued what has been a challenging season for the reliever.

The Giants turned to Dylan Smith to finish the inning. Although he prevented further damage, Arizona had trimmed the deficit to 6-4 heading into the ninth.

Caleb Kilian handled the rest, closing out the Diamondbacks to earn his seventh save of the season and secure the 6-4 victory.

What's Next

The Giants are off Thursday before opening a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Friday in Colorado. Neither team had announced a starting pitcher at the time of writing.
