The Jacksonville Jaguars head into the upcoming season with the potential to have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL.
If running backs Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. can prove the Jaguars right for having faith that they can lead the running game in the wake of Travis Etienne's departure, the ceiling for the offense is sky-high. Tuten has looked fantastic during training camp, continuing the stellar play he has shown all offseason. Rodriguez has finally been able to practice at training camp after missing OTAs and minicamp with an injury. Rodriguez brings a power element the Jaguars' run game has lacked. Combined with Tuten's explosive, game-breaking speed, Jacksonville's backfield should have plenty of balance.
The passing offense can be as lethal as any in the league. Trevor Lawrence is a legit MVP candidate this season, and he has what is maybe the most talented group of wide receivers in the business.
With Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington (who has been the star of camp so far), and Travis Hunter, defenses never know who the ball will be thrown to. Balance like that is rare, and Lawrence believes no other team can match it.
In an interview with Action Sports Jax, Lawrence talked about having so much talent to spread the ball around to. He told Brent Martineau and Austen Lane that he believes the Jaguars have the most balanced attack in the NFL.
“It’s a huge weapon for an offense to be balanced. There’s a lot of great receivers in this league and a lot of good offenses, but as far as the balance that we have, I think we are up there at the top of the league,” said Lawrence.
Aside from oozing with talent, each of Jacksonville's WRs brings something different to the table. BTJ is an explosive deep threat. Meyers is one of the most dependable and consistent receivers in the league. Washington is becoming a star, and his ability to gain yards after the catch is unmatched. Hunter is one of the NFL's most unique and special talents. While his role on offense has yet to be determined, the smart bet is on Hunter to make a big impact when he is called upon.
Add in tight end Brenton Strange, and the Jaguars have weapons everywhere, as Lawrence gleefully noted.
“The weapons are everywhere. Everyone’s a threat, and I think the cool thing about it is that everyone is different too. Every receiver that we have, or tight end, are really different players so you can do so much with those guys."
Usually an offense has that one receiver who gets the most attention from a defense. Not so with Jacksonville. Having a stable of pass-catchers like the Jaguars will give the offense an incredible advantage on game days, no matter the defense.
Lawrence knows that not many QBs lead an offense as explosive and balanced as his. Now with a year of experience in head coach Liam Coen's offense behind them, Lawrence and his receivers should be able to take another huge step forward.
The balance Jacksonville has in both the running and passing games will be difficult for even the best defenses to contain. With a healthy Hunter and BTJ looking more like the player he was during his great rookie season, the Jaguars have all of the ingredients necessary to make a deep playoff run.
