Tre White is officially back home in a Bills uniform.
The first draft pick of the Sean McDermott coaching era spent the 2024 season with the Rams and Ravens, coming back from injuries to his ACL in 2021 and his Achilles in 2023.
The corner previously spent his first seven seasons in Buffalo, putting up 18 interceptions over 93 contests with First-team All-Pro (2019) and Pro Bowl honors (2019, 2020) as well.
"It's great to have Tre back," Beane said to the press about re-signing White. "You know how we all feel about him, and the business part of this stinks…I made it clear just because we're parting ways today doesn't mean forever. And not that I envisioned one year later it would work out, but no, we're excited to have him back. Hard to find a guy who's been here since we started this thing."
White inked has inked a one-year deal to return to the club and compete for a starting job across from Christian Benford. His former backup, Dane Jackson, has also returned on a one-year deal in a similar capacity.
"He brings great experience to our team," Beane said. "Felt like, if you watch his film, really improved from the start of the year with the Rams to how he played down the stretch. He's another year off the injury. So, we have a lot of confidence in Tre, but no promises were made…we're pulling for him and would love nothing more if he wins the starting job. That means we feel good with him."
White opened up as well about his return to Buffalo and when that process began for him personally.
“I told my agent, 'If you can't get Buffalo on the line, just don't call me,’” he shared about their conversation after the Ravens' season and playoff run ended on his old home turf in Orchard Park.
It was a home he never wanted to leave.
“I always wanted to play for one team my entire career,” White added. “Unfortunately, that wasn't able to happen, but having the opportunity to come back and do it with guys that I know, that I've grown with, went through so much adversity with, seen me injured, come back, injured again. So having that opportunity is something that I can't pass up. Me walking through the door yesterday, it just seemed like I never left. I just feel in place, I feel home. So for that, I'm forever grateful and I'm so thankful to be back for sure.”
While his return was a surprise to some, Beane had mentioned to White when the team parted ways with him that it was in the realm of possibility he could be back, and a year later, that's become a reality.
"I could go here for another hour on Tre' White and Dane Jackson," Beane continued. "Those guys are Bills' blue DNA. It's guys like that that help you win…it's great to have those guys back in the mix."
