Travis Hunter is a unicorn and unlike any college football player we've seen. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner and Colorado football star played at an elite level as both a cornerback and wide receiver, but the big story leading up to next week's NFL draft is whether Hunter can play both ways in the NFL.

Hunter has made it clear that he intends to play both offense and defense at the next level, and according to Hunter himself, no NFL team he has met with so far has had any concerns with his ambitions to play both ways.

Many have speculated that if an NFL team made him choose a side of the ball, he would pick receiver, but Hunter says that wouldn't be his choice; instead, he would go a step further.

"It's never playing football again," Hunter told CBS Sports' Garrett Podell. "Because I've been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball."

That is a major statement from Hunter, but it speaks to how confident he is in his ability to continue to play both ways at the highest level. He has a point after playing 713 offensive snaps and 748 defensive snaps at the Power Four level with Colorado last year.

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen, who owns the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft, believes in Hunter as well. When asked this week if the Giants would allow Hunter to play offense and defense, Schoen said they'd have a hard time not letting him.

"Travis is a unique individual...he's fun to watch. He's a great kid, it would be hard to keep him off the field. He's motivated to play both ways."

The Giants seem prepared to let Hunter dominate both sides of the ball if they select the Colorado star. Injuries will always be a concern for a player playing that many snaps, but Schoen says Hunter is built for it.

"You're always worried about the length of the season in the NFL," Schoen said. "If he gets hurt doing something that he's not doing full-time, you're going to kick yourself. But, he's a unique athlete that I think will be able to do both."

We will have to wait and see what happens next Thursday, but every NFL organization considering drafting Hunter should prepare to let him play both ways; otherwise, it could be a wasted draft pick.
