May 31—Backed by strong performances from Key'Shawn Garrett and its relay teams, the Wayne boys track team tallied 89 points to win the Division I, Region 4, super regional meet on Saturday, May 30, at Heidkamp Stadium.
Garrett ran a blazing time of 10.3 seconds in the 100-meter and a 20.98 in the 200-meter, winning both events for the Warriors. Garrett also helped anchor the 400 and 800-meter relay teams which Wayne won in times of 41.57 and 1:27.32, respectively.
Jackson Davis of Beavercreek picked up wins in the 800 (1:53.39) and 1,600-meter (4:19.93) races along with helping win the 3,200 relay (7:49.27). 'Creek boys finished second overall with a 77 and the girls team also placed second with wins from Maya Cook in the 200-meter (24.77) and Anais Early in the long jump (18-01).
Other first-place finishers from the meet included Lamar Bonner of Northmont in the high jump (6-05), and the Springfield girls 400 meter relay (48.23) team of Annaleah Arnold, Elise Brown, Aryanna Floyd and Kennedi Jones.
In the Division I, Region 3, super regional at Mason, the Centerville boys and girls squads secured top five finishes. Lakota East also had a strong performance.
Simon Young Linck ran a 47.75 to carry the 400-meter race while Gabe Gillem won the long jump (22-07) and Ethan Ireland won the pole vault (14-00) to help the Centerville boys team place fourth overall.
The Elks girls placed second overall, with the 4x200-meter relay team of Sariah Turner, Taylor McComb, Katelyn Carter and Addison Hogendoorn recording a winning time of 1:40.41. Ellie Davenport won the 100 and 400-meter seated races.
Mikaylah Chandler led Lakota East with victories in the 100-meter hurdles (14.34) and 300-meter hurdles (43.98) while Ava Dickenson placed first in the 800-meter (2:15.02). Camden Pham won the 300-meter hurdles (38.76) for East on the boys side.
Ava Shepard scored a 4:56.65 to take the 1600-meter race for Lakota West.
The state tournament will be held next week at Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Divisions I and II are slated for Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7. Division III will be on Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6, and Divisions IV and V on Thursday, June 4, and Friday, June 5.
