Twice Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard considered ending his cycling career last year.
"I said last year, if it's going to continue like this then I can't do it any more. That is why we changed some things. I think the team also realized what the situation was. They noticed that I wasn't happy last year," the 29-year-old told Danish broadcaster TV2 on the sidelines of the Tour of France.
The Visma rider, who is second in the Tour behind runaway rival Tadej Pogačar, also spoke about the major sacrifices that come with the sport.
"As a professional cyclist you feel like you're constantly on a diet. You always have to watch your weight and you're constantly training. A lot is demanded of you. It wears down your body and mind," Vingegaard stressed ahead of Tuesday's 10th stage.
Being away from his family for long periods was not easy either, the Dane added.
