Top performers: Hartland stays hot, sets up showdown with defending state baseball champ

Hartland will get a shot at sole possession of first place in KLAA West baseball against the defending state champion next week.

With a 9-5 victory over Plymouth Wednesday, the eighth-ranked Eagles improved to 5-0 in the division. Northville, which won the Division 1 title last season, is also 5-0 after sweeping Brighton in two tight games Monday and Wednesday.

Hartland will host Northville at 4:30 p.m. Monday before playing on the Mustangs’ field at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Northville is off to a 9-0 start overall.

Ty Kraut pitched five innings, striking out six, and also drove in two runs for Hartland (7-3 overall).

Dylan Crowe was 3-for-4, Michael Zielinski was 2-for-2 with three runs as the lead-off hitter and Bobby Griffon was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Eagles.

Howell 3, Novi 2

Nick Hoorn stuck out seven batters and didn’t allow a walk in seven innings as Howell completed a sweep of 14th-ranked Novi. JT Thomas was 3-for-4 and Jacob Hernandez 2-for-2 for the Highlanders (7-2-1 overall, 4-1-1 KLAA West).

Northville 10, Brighton 9

After losing in nine innings to Northville two days earlier, the Bulldogs lost when Leo Link hit a pinch-hit single to center in the bottom of the seventh to complete Northville’s comeback from a 9-7 deficit through four innings.

Brighton’s Andrew Everson was 2-for-4 and drove in four runs, giving him a team-high 16 RBIs. Alex Banghart was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs (7-3, 2-3 KLAA West).

Pinckney 17, Ypsilanti 1

Jax Raymond hit a two-run in-the-park homer, Jacob Monroe was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Aidan Furtak struck out seven without allowing a hit in three innings for Pinckney.

Charyl Stockwell 1, Plymouth Christian 0

Stockwell starter Noah Piesko pitched six innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven. Drew Goodwin got the save with one no-hit inning for the Sentinels (5-0).

Easton Lavery was 5-for-7 with two triples and five RBIs, Zoey Overton was 5-for-6, Addison Caldwell was 4-for-8 with three RBIs, and Leighton Scott was 4-for-5 with three RBIs in the doubleheader for Howell (7-3.

Lara Anderson was 3-for-3 with two triples and four RBIs and Alli Ulanowski struck out eight batters in four innings in the first game.

Kaitlyn Brennan was 3-for-6 and drove in five runs for Hartland (4-1-1) in the doubleheader. Olivia Forrest got the victory in the opener, allowing one earned run in seven innings.

Freshman Libby Carah was 3-for-3 for Brighton in the second game.

Williamston 9, Fowlerville 3

Kiely Davis was 3-for-4 and McKayla Fletcher was 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the second game for Fowlerville.

Boys golf​


Howell 152, Novi 157

Howell’s Zach Spencer made four birdies to win medalist honors with a 4-under-par 32 in his first round of the season at Faulkwood Shores Golf Club. Novi’s Colin Riehl shot 34.

Luke Downing shot 39, Gavin Hill 40 and Tad Pietila 41 for the Highlanders.

Boys track and field​


Chelsea 84, Pinckney 53

Pinckney’s Sam Burtts won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.86 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 47.18. Zach Newman won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 44.80 seconds and was on the winning 1,600 relay team. Cole McCraw won the 3,200 in 10:15.07 and was second in the 1,600 in 4:47.13.

Northville 121, Howell 16

Howell’s Romen Williams won the 110 high hurdles in 16.75 and high jump with a leap of 6 feet.

Williamston 104, Fowlerville 33

Landon Aeschliman won pole vault at 10-6 and Connell Hardenbrook won the 400 in 56.26 for Fowlerville.

Girls track and field​


Chelsea 79, Pinckney 58

Madison Cooke won the 100 in 13.05, the 200 in 27.43 and was on the first-place 800 relay to lead Pinckney. Jaelyn Ray won the 1,600 in 5:13.47 and the 3,200 in 11:40.11 for the Pirates.

Northville 114.5, Howell 22.5

Howell’s Emma Kanka won shot put at 35-4.25 and was second in discus at 86-1. Samantha Kong won high jump with a leap of 5 feet for the Highlanders.

Williamston 80, Fowlerville 57

Autumn Carr won the 200 in 29.67, Norah Presley won discus at 85-8 and CJ Checchi won shot put at 28-7 for Fowlerville.

Soccer​


Fowlerville 4, Lansing Waverly 0

Danykah Muck and Autumn Carr each scored twice for Fowlerville.

Boys lacrosse​


Hartland 15, Plymouth 1

Clayton Penzien, Drew Schecher and Coen Chwalek each scored three goals for Hartland. Braden Streight forced five turnovers on defense.

Howell 9, Belleville 3

Ryan O’Dea had two goals and two assists and Caleb Edwards scored twice for the Highlanders. Chotu Yang made 10 saves in his first start in net for Howell.

Brighton 19, Canton 1

Matt Skoczylas had five goals, while Lukas Aurandt and Joey Skoczylas each scored four times for Brighton (5-2).
