Top insider reveals why Chelsea face anxious wait on the future of “exceptional” star

Chelsea and Strasbourg have agreed to wait until the end of the season before deciding on the future of Andrey Santos according to reports.

The Blues signed Santos for around £13m from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama, but the midfielder has yet to make a competitive appearance for the club.

The 20-year-old is currently thriving at Strasbourg, with Chelsea’s sister club in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

The Brazilian has not only been one of Strasbourg’s top performers, he’s also been one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1 this season.

Santos has scored ten goals from midfield, and has also captained the side, which is a testament to his character and surprising for a loanee.

Liam Rosenior has labelled him “exceptional” and Santos has really pushed on this season, with the Blues said to be happy with his development.

It’s expected Santos will have a key role in the Chelsea squad next season, however, Mail Sport have reported his future has yet to be decided.

The report states Chelsea and Strasbourg have agreed to wait until the end of the season before deciding on his future, mainly because they are waiting to find out what European competition each club will be in.

Santos’ performances haven’t gone unnoticed and he’s believed to be attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs including Bayern Munich.

It’s said Chelsea’s stance on the youngster is he’s not for sale, and he could make his long awaited debut at the Club World Cup this summer.

Given Romeo Lavia’s constant injury issues, Santos will likely be an important part of Chelsea’s midfield next season as they get ready to compete on four fronts.

Santos won’t be the only midfielder arriving this summer, with Dario Essugo due to arrive after Chelsea agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon worth £18.5m last month.
