Lamar Jackson and Todd Monken are quite familiar with one another. That shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, given that Monken spent a three-year stint as Jackson's offensive coordinator in Baltimore, which helped him land the head coaching role for the Cleveland Browns this offseason.

But their friendly relationship doesn't extend onto the gridiron – well, it did before, but times have changed. With Jackson still the starting signal caller for the Ravens, the two will have to face off twice a year for the foreseeable future. And while Jackson took the time to shoot Monken a congratulations text after he earned the job, Monken was willing to forgo the niceties when it comes to his business on the gridiron.

“Then I said, ‘go [expletive] yourself,’” Monken said. “We are going to blitz you every third down. He laughed.”

Of course, there's more to the story than that, and don't assume Monken was being truly malicious or disrespectful with his comments – he also took the time to highlight Jackson as a "tremendous person". He credited him for helping Monken secure his current gig. But it's also pretty clear that once the whistle blows, there is no love lost – Monken plans to bombard Jackson with pressure and force him to find a way to deal with it.
