Today in Boston Celtics history, Demetrius Montell Jackson Jr. was signed to a multi-year contract following his selection by Boston in the second round as the 45th overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Jackson took part in the Las Vegas and Utah Summer Leagues that summer, showing off a promising performance in preparation for his rookie season with the Celtics. He spent the majority of his inaugural season with Boston's G League developmental affiliate, the Maine Red Claws (currently known as the Maine Celtics), while also making appearances in five regular season games with the parent club.

The South Bend, Indiana native would average just 2 points per game over that stretch, however, and was waived and stretched at the end of the season.

He logged 3.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest with Boston.

Earl Tatum shares the birthday with him, born in 1953 in Mount Vernon, New York. The Marquette alum joined the team when he was dealt from the Indiana Pacers to Boston for draft considerations in 1978. He left the Celtics the first time in a deal that sent Jeff Green, Wally Szczerbiak, and draft assets for Ray Allen and Glen Davis to Boston, and left the second time as a free agent signing with the Dallas Mavericks.
