While the Tennessee Titans' first-round rookie Carnell Tate is hard at work at offensive team activities, the young wideout has had some time to meet with Topps Trading Cards and go through a quick quiz.
The Topps rep asked Tate what the most expensive trading card ever made was, and in the end, Tate was blown away by the answer.
After making an educated guess and guessing Tom Brady, he finally landed on the correct answer with Patrick Mahomes, but still, his guess on the value was way off. Tate’s first guess at $1.7 million came in a few million dollars short of the final selling price of $4.3 million. A shocking number for the rare trading card.
After hearing that total in the reel, Titans Wire dove into the history of this card and found the history of this game-changer in the hobby. In July 2021, a 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes Rookie Auto NFL Shield 1/1 set the $4.3 million benchmark as the most expensive card ever sold, surpassing the 2000 Playoff Contenders Tom Brady Championship Ticket Autograph card that sold for $3.8 million in June of 2021.
