The latest Timberwolves rumors suggest that Anthony Edwards is “advocating” for a Kyrie Irving trade, while a Jason Kidd-Giannis Antetokounmpo reunion in Minnesota could be on the cards. The rumors broke out after the Mavericks fired Kidd in a shocking move, apparently the first of many turnovers under the Masai Ujiri regime.

Irving is the second-oldest player on the Dallas team and is coming off ACL surgery. With the Mavericks likely rebuilding under Ujiri and Cooper Flagg as the centerpiece, there’s speculation that he could be on his way out.

Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo is already on the trade market, and there are rumblings he could be on the move by draft night. If Kidd indeed replaces Chris Finch and Antetokounmpo gets traded, it would be their second stint as a player-coach duo after their time in Milwaukee.

The Timberwolves are eyeing upgrades after falling short in the playoffs again. They made consecutive conference finals runs in 2024 and 2025, but took a step back and were out in the conference semis this year. It’s clear that they needed a co-star alongside Edwards to shoulder the load offensively.

NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson delivered a series of bombshell reports around the Timberwolves, Edwards, Irving, Kidd and Antetokounmpo on Tuesday. Here’s what his post in X said:

“Jason Kidd didn’t just part ways with the Mavs—a league source tells me simply: “He wanted out.” So what’s next? Think a J-Kidd & Giannis reunion in Minnesota? “Not out of the question,” says a trusted league fixture. Plus, Anthony Edwards is privately pushing for a healthy Kyrie Irving to join him with the T-Wolves, while Houston monitors closely.”

If the Timberwolves find success in any of these moves, it could bring massive reinforcements to the team that it desperately needs. Minnesota has the 2033 pick to trade and three second-rounders.

They can dangle Julius Randle’s contract in trade talks and sign-and-trade Ayo Dosunmu. If it’s a player of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Timberwolves may also need to include Jaden McDaniels in a potential trade. For now, a Kyrie Irving trade seems more realistic due to their lack of assets.

Timberwolves Rumors: Anthony Edwards could lose a key teammate who was integral to conference finals runs

The Timberwolves could lose one of their biggest trade acquisitions in recent memory. Four-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert is emerging as a potential trade candidate. According to insider Jake Fischer, the Timberwolves are questioning his long-term prospects.

Gobert will turn 34 in June. He had a mediocre regular season by his standards, but stepped up in the playoffs, especially against the Nuggets. However, Gobert had no answers for Victor Wembanyama in the conference semis. While that could be true for every center in the NBA, Gobert had close to no impact on offense, either.

It could be a tough choice to make, as Gobert was one of the catalysts during the Anthony Edwards era. They made their two conference finals runs a year after his trade addition, soaring at the top of the league’s defensive charts.

However, with age catching up and his lack of improvement on offense, it could be time for the Timbewolves to pull the plug on him.
