The Tigers finally are back home Friday, and they'll be welcomed by a capacity crowd.

The Tigers announced this week that tickets are sold out for Friday's home opener against the St. Louis Cardinals at Comerica Park, extending the team's streak of Opening Day sellouts. The Tigers have sold out every home opener at Comerica Park, which opened in 2000, excluding the pandemic years of 2020, when no fans were allowed, and 2021, when crowd capacity was capped at 8,000.

While Friday's game is officially sold out, a search of tigers.com does show there still are standing room-only tickets available, for $128.80 apiece. On the secondary market, there also is an abundance of Opening Day tickets listed, starting at $150 per seat for two tickets in the third level in left field.

The Tigers drew 39,168 for the first Opening Day at Comerica Park, in 2000, and have topped 40,000 every year since, except for 2020 and 2021. The largest Opening Day crowd at Comerica Park was 45,068 in 2014, back in the days when Opening Day tickets would be sold out within minutes of going on sale. That's not the case anymore, though they've still drawn over 44,000 each of the last three years, including 44,735 last year.

In announcing the sellout for Friday's game, which starts at 1:10 p.m. and will be broadcast on Detroit SportsNet and Fox 2, the Tigers also said ticket sales are going well for games on Saturday and Sunday.

There's traditionally a significant decline in attendance from Game 1 to Game 2 on the home schedule, but it might not be as drastic this year, with Game 2 on a Saturday, and the high temperature expected to be in the low 70s (however, there is rain in the forecast later in the day).

The crowd for Game 3 will be interesting to see, given it's a nationally televised game on Peacock's "Sunday Night Baseball," and it marks Justin Verlander's first start in Detroit as a Tiger since Aug. 20, 2017. The Tigers have announced a special ticket sale for Verlander's return that includes a blue and orange "WELCOME HOME" T-shirt with the specially-purchased tickets, which start at $28.66. Details on that sale are available at tigers.com.

On StubHub, Tigers Opening Day is listed as a "hottest event," and Games 2 and 3 are listed as "selling fast."

In 2025, the Tigers played their first three home games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and they dipped to just over 26,000 fans for the second game, and just over 20,000 for the third game. Temperatures were in the 40s.

In 2025, the Tigers drew more than 2.4 million fans for the regular season, their best since 2016. On the heels of back-to-back playoff appearances and an offseason in which they signed pitchers Framber Valdez, Verlander and Kenley Jansen, they are hoping to break the 3-million mark for the fifth time in franchise history, and first time since 2013.
