Atlanta — Tigers’ No. 7-rated prospect (MLB Pipeline) Thayron Liranzo is finally getting his 2026 season started.

The 22-year-old catcher-first baseman who strained his oblique at the end of spring training, has been activated and assigned to Double-A Erie.

After dominating the Arizona Fall League in 2024 (.375 average, 1.158 OPS), he struggled at the plate in Double-A last season (31% strikeout rate). But he came to big-league camp having completely transformed his body and his hitting approach.

He went 8 for 17 in his rehab stint at Low-A Lakeland.

Tigers’ No. 4-rated prospect Josue Briceño, also a catcher-first baseman, is still on the minor league injured list, recovering from wrist surgery
