Tigers' Kevin McGonigle breaks impressive rookie record set by Aaron Judge originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Detroit Tigers might not be having the best 2026 season overall, but they have gotten some incredible individual production this year. Dillon Dingler has been awesome, but Kevin McGonigle might be the team MVP.
He's running away with the AL Rookie of the Year, as he's a complete player putting together a fantastic season. And now, he's just broken a rookie record with a few games to spare.
As Jon Morosi shared on Twitter/x, McGonigle just broke a record set by Aaron Judge back in 2017 for the most games reaching base safely at least twice before the All-Star break, as the Tigers rookie just had his 53rd such game in 91 games this season.
Tigers' Kevin McGonigle breaks Aaron Judge's rookie record
"History in Detroit tonight: Kevin McGonigle has reached base multiple times on 53 occasions before the All-Star Game," Morosi shared. "That is a new @MLB record, surpassing the mark set by Aaron Judge in 2017."
This record is only for rookies, as this 53-game mark isn't the most of any player in any season in big league history.
But, for rookies, this is still a very impressive record to set. Judge turned out to be a good player, and McGonigle looks to be en route to an impressive career himself.

The 21-year-old infielder has already posted 4.9 bWAR this season with a .287 batting average, seven homers, 95 hits, and 58 walks, along with just 53 strikeouts, to go with his .821 OPS and .398 on-base percentage.
McGonigle reached base three times in the Tigers' win over the Athletics, getting two hits and one walk with an RBI in four at-bats. It's the second day in a row with two hits and a walk, and his fourth-straight game with a walk.
The Tigers' rookie is an All-Star, and surely on his way to many more accolades in his career. McGonigle will have five more games to try and add to this record, with 58 games the maximum he could get to this season to set what could be a very long-lasting record.
