May 22 2024; Hoover, AL, USA; Vanderbilt reliever Miller Green pitches against Tennessee at the Hoover Met during the SEC Tournament.
The Alabama Crimson Tide wrapped up their 2026 season in Omaha in the College World Series. Things didn’t go as they wished, and Bama was sent home after losing their first two games. The Tide finished the season 42-21 with an 18-12 record in the SEC, good enough for a 4th place finish. With two-thirds of the starting rotation, Tyler Fay and Zane Adams, off to the MLB draft, Bama has gone fishing in the transfer portal with a heavy emphasis on pitchers. Alabama survived the 2026 season with Fay, Adams, and Myles Upchurch, making every weekend start in order. Coach Rob Vaughn and pitching coach Jason Jackson used those three and mostly just three relievers to navigate the conference slate. The three bullpen arms highlighted were Matthew Heiberger, Ashton Crowther, and Hagan Banks. Banks was a 5th year senior and is out of eligibility. Heiberger and Crowther are both draft eligible. Crowther appears to be returning while Heiberger will have to consider what might happen in the draft. Vaughn and company have added seven players via the portal with five of those being pitchers.
Cooper Neville, an infielder out of Dallas Baptist, was the first Alabama commit. Neville began his career at Grand Canyon before moving to Iowa Western CC and then on to Dallas Baptist. In his fourth year Neville will be joining his fourth team. In 2026 for DBU, Neville hit .317 with 11 doubles, eight doubles, 38 RBI, a .421 OBP, and stole 17 bases in 21 attempts. Neville played mostly third base at Dallas but is playing shortstop in the Cape Code League this summer and can also play second base.
The other position player that the Tide has added so far is catcher Mateo Serna out of Missouri. Serna played three seasons for the Tigers. In 2026 the backstop hit .240 with two homers, five doubles, and 21 RBI. Serna is best known as the “ABS Catcher” from this seasons SEC Tournament when he was correct on many challenges using the experimental system. With Johnny Lemm and Brady Neal out of eligibility the Tide will be looking for a catcher. Serna will battle Zach Johnson, Will Plattner, and incoming freshman Gage Petrutz, for time behind the dish.
On to the pitchers. Garrett Lambert is a draft eligible redshirt freshman out of Mercer. Lambert is a 2023 high school graduate that battles two years worth of injures before breaking out this season. Lambert was named a Freshman All-American after posting a 5-1 record with a 4.31 ERA in 71 innings pitched while striking out 90 batters. Lambert is 6’2” 200 pounds and should battle for a weekend rotation spot, if he doesn’t go in the draft.
Michael Senay will be an incoming sophomore after a standout freshman season at South Florida. The right hander is 6’2’, 200 pounds, and a native of Orlando, FL. Senay grabbed the Saturday starter role for the Bulls and started 13 games with a 6-3 record, 3.78 ERA, only 17 walks, and 55 strikeouts. Senay should also battle for a weekend rotation spot.
Big, 6’5’ 231 pounds, Miller Green is left hander pitcher that comes to Tuscaloosa from Vanderbilt. Green spent three years in Nashville with his first year in 2024 as his best. Green appeared in 20 games out of the bullpen and forged a 2-4 record with a 3.16 ERA in 31 innings with 34 strikeouts. The lefty appeared in 20 game in 2025 and only five in 2026 while battling injuries. In 59 career innings Green has struck out 69 batters. Green looks to be a high leverage, late game, bullpen piece for the Tide.
Dylan Marionneaux is a 6’3” 165 pound right hander coming from Northwestern State out of Louisiana. Marionneaux is from Zachary, LA and attended the same high school that produced former Alabama left handed pitcher Taylor Guilbeau. Marionneaux was originally a walk but blossomed into an ace for NWS in 2026. In 84 innings Marionneaux had a 4-2 record with a 3.51 ERA with 81 strikeouts against only 18 walks. Marionneaux is draft eligible, but if he makes it to Tuscaloosa should battle for a rotation spot or a high leverage position in the bullpen.
Later on we will look at incoming freshman and junior college players, as well as who is returning for the Tide. Alabama won 40 plus games in back to back season for the first time since 2006 and has reached Regional Play four years in a row for the first time since the early 2000’s. Vaughn has the Tide on the right path and we look forward to Bama being a consistent power again.
