The Oklahoma City Thunder breezed through the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, as they eliminated Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies in just four games. It seems that the second round is a different story for Oklahoma City, especially after it got stunned in a 121-119 Game 1 loss to the Denver Nuggets at home on Monday evening.

The Thunder had a lead by as many as 14 points in the Nuggets game. They looked as though they were about to bag a win when Chet Holmgren went to the free throw line for a pair of shots and an opportunity to stretch OKC's lead to four points with just 10.1 seconds left in the fourth period.

But the former Gonzaga Bulldogs star missed both attempts from the foul line, which the Nuggets capitalized on, as Aaron Gordon hit a 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds remaining in regulation to give Denver a two-point lead.

The Thunder were not able to get the lead back, as Jalen Williams' desperate 55-foot try did not find its mark as time expired in the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma City superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was honest about the mood of the Thunder's locker room following such a devastating loss.

“It sucked the first couple minutes, the former Kentucky Wildcats star said (h/t Clemente Almanza of The Thunder Wire). "We didn’t expect our whole run to be sunshine and rainbows. We know that. It’s how we respond… There’s no point in having our head down.”

Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 33 points on 12-for-26 shooting from the field, with 10 rebounds and eight assists. Meanwhile, Alex Caruso came off the bench and provided 20 points, six assists and five steals. As for the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic dropped 42 points to go along with 22 boards and six dimes in yet another stellar performance in the playoffs.

The good news for the Thunder is that it's still too early in the series for them to panic. They will look to level the affair on Wednesday in Game 2 at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
