Tigers 5, Rangers 1

  • How frustrating.
  • Kumar Rocker, the Rangers’ second best starter in the first month of the season, went just two innings, threw just 43 pitches and faced just 12 batters, allowing five runs.
  • It would have been worse for Rocker had Ezequiel Duran not thrown out Gleyber Torres at home one batter before Dillon Dingler took Rocker deep in the first.
  • Despite Rocker’s struggles, I would not have expected Skip Schumaker to yank Rocker so early — particularly MacKenzie Gore didn’t make it out of the fourth on Friday, resulting in five relievers being used.
  • The three Ranger relievers who did not pitch on Friday got into the game Saturday, with Cal Quantrill going three innings, Peyton Gray going two and Gavin Collyer one inning.
  • The bullpen kept the Tigers off the board, at least. Its too bad the offense didn’t do enough to make it matter.
  • Texas did avoid being shut out when Jake Burger homered in the fourth. So that’s something.
  • Bleah. Let’s just move on.
  • Kumar Rocker touched 95.6 mph on his sinker, averaging 93.9 mph. Cal Quantrill’s sinker touched 94.7 mph. Peyton Gray’s fastball topped out at 93.4 mph. Gavin Collyer hit 98.6 mph with his fastball.
  • Corey Seager had a 107.9 mph fly out, a 107.8 mph fly out, a 105.1 mph single and a 103.2 mph fly out. Ezequiel Duran had a 103.8 mph fly out. Josh Jung had a 103.5 mph double. Jake Burger’s homer was 102.2 mph. Alejandro Osuna had a 100.4 mph ground out. Evan Carter had a 1003. mph fly out.
  • Rangers can take the series on Sunday. Let’s root for them to do so.
