As I post this thread, the video below has less than 155,000 views on Youtube. This is flying totally under the radar. It's also the biggest financial story of the millennia! The NYSE has been almost secretly preparing to tokenize all the assets it trades. That would open up 24X7 trading of everything on the NYSE! They make their money off the number of trades made per day. Imagine if they never close?

(There's been talk of tokenizing the real estate market. Your house can or will be tokenized. Then you can sell fractional shares if you wanted. Transactions would have less paperwork. Your house's info could be accessed on a blockchain.)

NYSE President Lynn Martin joins ‘Mornings with Maria’ to discuss the launch of a new tokenized securities platform, a potential IPO surge in 2026 and why U.S. capital markets remain unmatched globally.

Overall if they do it correctly this could be really good since ownership of every share is correctly accounted for at all times. It could help cleanup crap like naked shorting. It should allow for quicker settlement too so no more waiting on your money.

The downside is people are already complaining about losing their Bitcoin to hackers, and the complicated process of keeping your Bitcoin secure. They would have to come up with some security feature for the tokens that couldn't be hacked.

These are due to people's wallets getting hacked from using bad passwords or the wallet getting compromised some other way. It's not the token itself that's being hacked.

I haven't seen details yet on this but I'd assume that from the consumer side you're still going to use your brokerage account like normal. That this is more of a backbone tech for how the brokers, banks, and exchanges talk to one another and track the assets. Sort of like how you don't interact directly with the current system now. You always go through your brokerage account as an abstraction layer.

A number of brokerages already allow trading of fractional shares and same day settlement is inevitable regardless of tokenization. What's the benefit of tokenization? It'll probably fuel more degenerate trading.

@Folster were you talking in the mirror or did you leave out your comment above on purpose?
