The Houston Astros likely haven't decided to be trade deadline sellers yet.

But they've surely thought about who they might want to deal if that time comes, and Isaac Paredes would be a logical conclusion.

It's really not anything against Paredes himself. The Astros just have a setup that lends itself to moving on from the slugging corner infielder.

Why would the Astros trade Isaac Paredes?

When Houston is healthy, things start to get a bit crowded on the dirt and in the lineup.

Paredes has a case to fit even in the crowded situation, but Houston could also diversify by adding talent in a different area in place of Paredes.

"If Houston does trade any of its veterans this summer, Paredes (controllable through 2027) is most likely to go," MLB.com's Thomas Harrigan wrote in a new article this weekend. "With Christian Walker at first, Jose Altuve at second, Yordan Alvarez at DH and Carlos Correa returning from injury to play third next year, the team could put the 27-year-old Paredes on the block to either bolster its lackluster farm system or bring back an MLB-ready arm who can help in 2026 and beyond."

Harrigan points out that pretty much all of the Astros' key contributors are under contract in 2027 and some beyond, too. That means there aren't a ton of obvious sell-off candidates of players on expiring deals.

Paredes, controlled through 2027, is one of the earlier expiration dates, and so maybe that pushes him into this spotlight.

He's still just 27 years old and has immense raw power to his pull side. Maybe his defense isn't ideal, but Paredes has a bit of versatility and hits the ball really hard.

Another team would gladly take him off Houston's hands if he does turn out to be available.
