I’ve watched every US WC game since 1990 and that blunder by Freese might be the worst GK flub ever.

Goalkeeping used to be a strength for so long

That our pool is this shallow and has been for so long now is really baffling

Some of the legacy challenges are still there, but to have such a void at GK is troubling - especially when we've seen great GK performances across the tournament - many from small nations

It’s definitely the worst by a USA goal keeper by a long shot. I can’t even think of an error that approaches that one. We’ve been lucky until the last 2 cycles. Freese has also been poor on restarts and distribution. Way too conservative. Tim Howard created the famous Landon Donovan goal. That’s what you want to see more of but we just don’t have it.

Honestly Balogun looks like the only US player good enough to play for Belgium.

Maybe we all got carried away by the hype. I never believed we should be favored against Belgium but I legitimately thought we would at least look like we were supposed to be here.

I thought the starting 11 would be better than they were.

Yeah but the problem was a the guys behind him are basically the same if not worse.

I used to follow the U17s and U20s really closely but I don’t anymore, so I am not even sure what youth is waiting in the wings.

The only other GK blunder I can remember even close to that crap is Guzan handling the ball outside the area and getting a straight red but that was the Gold Cup. Straight up trash.

I forgot about that.

Overall toughness is lacking. We are getting muscled off the ball way too much. You can just see and feel difference in the gritty way these upper echelon teams play. We are long ways away. Today we were exposed on a lot of areas. On to football season
