Awesome to see Andrea and Lyndsey Fry stepping in for the Valley to get the team back. I have to imagine they're going to go about this the right way, in terms of involving the community and the right people.

I want the Yotes back so badly!

I’m in Utah, so I’m happy that they’re now here as the Mammoth. That said, as a Coyotes fan I very much want to see a return of the NHL to the Valley…with stable ownership!

Sounds good. Any news since? From what I hear, the NHL wants a franchise in the Phoenix area, but the Suns have an agreement that they have to be the only arena in the city. I really miss the team. Can't root for Utah and I feel blah for any game I watch. Went to the Hurricanes/Canucks the other day with my wife and I enjoyed it, but it just wasn't the same without howling.

I haven't heard anything specific. Recently, Mesa city council approved a plan to develop a theme park district on the old Fiesta Mall land. They intend to try to bring both an MLS and NWSL team to the area. But, they do mention that it could also be used for other sports venues, so maybe that could be an open door for a site in the future?

Are we getting another team or not?
from the google:

The earliest the Phoenix area could receive an NHL expansion team is likely several years from now, as a new arena must first be built. There is no official set timeline for the new team's arrival.

Key Factors for an NHL Return to Arizona
  • Arena Requirement: NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has stated that the league is committed to the Phoenix market but a new, world-class arena is required before an expansion team can be awarded. The previous owner's (Alex Meruelo) right to reactivate the franchise within five years was contingent on building an arena, an option he has since relinquished.
  • New Ownership Group: A new ownership group and an arena location must be identified. A Maricopa County advisory committee is working to find both an owner and a suitable site for a new building.
  • Expansion Process: Maricopa County Supervisor Thomas Galvin has cautioned that this will be a "years-long process," not a quick one. The NHL would need approximately 18 months' notice that an arena will be completed to begin the process of a new franchise, but the actual construction and planning process is lengthy.
In short, there is no set date, and the return of an NHL team is entirely dependent on the successful development of an appropriate arena and a new ownership group.

With that being said, I am not optimistic. :( :yotes::coyotes:

All of those are some interesting options. Aside from the obvious 2, Houston and Phoenix. I feel like Austin would be a great market. They are an untapped resource.

Aww, does that mean Muruelo isn't getting that new Reno arena done soon?

Bitterness aside, that's good to see. I'm glad they'll be around longer.

At NHL Board of Governors, Commissioner Gary Bettman informed the Baord they will be opening a process to investigate Houston or Austin TX for an expansion franchise

Houston feels like, as long as the money is there, that it's going to happen. I haven't even heard any news on movement as to the search for someone buying the Yotes. Anyone heard anything?
