The Future of Nico Paz Causing a Ruckus at Real Madrid
Nico Paz has expressed his preference to stay another season at Como, with the chance of a starring role and playing in the UEFA Champions League, which hasn’t been well received by Real Madrid, Corriere dello Sport informs.
Les Merengues had decided to activate their €10M buy-back clause so their coach could evaluate him during the summer. However, the player’s stance irked them. They are mulling over the best course of action now.
Real Madrid could simply delay the procedure, as they would be able to sign Paz for €11M next year. However, part of their brass and José Mourinho believe that Como should purchase him if they want to lean on him for a third consecutive season. His price tag is roughly €60M. The Lariani would most likely be out of the race at that point. So would Inter, which have long been coveting him. Only some Premier League sides and a couple of European powerhouses could afford to spend that much on an emerging talent.
Los Blancos have until June 30th to make the final call. They were already stacked and added Bernardo Silva. An acquisition and a loan back isn’t likely.

The scenario changed for the second summer in a row, as his return seemed a fait accompli for most of the year, up until it was crunch time. Maybe the coaching change contributed, as he had ties with Alvaro Arbeloa. The stance is somewhat understandable, but we’ll see if cooler heads will prevail. Simply postponing the whole thing to 2027 would be the simplest course of action, and he could become undeniable at that point, but perhaps even the mighty Merengues need some cash.
