At this moment, Northeast Ohio is all warm and fuzzy with nostalgia after celebrating the 10 anniversary of the Cleveland Cavaliers' NBA championship.
LeBron James and the boys got together in Europe for a golf outing that would could’ve made Tiger Woods envious. The Cavs as an organization debuted a hoops court in downtown Cleveland to celebrate. And behold, James is once again a free agent with speculation regarding his future swirling given that he basically told the Los Angeles Lakers to take a hike.
Yeah, that’s the kind of power he has. He can just walk away from one of the most storied franchises not only in the NBA, but in all of sports, on his own terms.
Now other suitors – like the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat – have lined up. That includes, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Cavs.
The Heat and Cavs make sense as potential landing spots, but the Warriors, not so much. After all, he won championships with the first two. Like a basketball Moses, he delivered Northeast Ohio from the championship desert and would certainly be welcome back in Cleveland and especially Akron. It's a fact that he has to be well aware of given the recent LeBron sightings around town, and posts about driving around in his city.
But should he return to the Cavs? I’m ambivalent. But I’m pragmatic enough to recognize much of this area is not.
In some respect at this point, the Cavs-James relationship seems somewhat, if not toxic, definitely dysfunctional. He left Cleveland to take his talents to Miami the first time and returned amid a celebration that suited a savior. And, of course, he delivered. Then he left again. Just like that. And he could come back again. JUST. LIKE. THAT.
All three teams that have interest in acquiring James’ services can manuvere to get in a financial position to do so.
The Cavs are expected to get under the financially crushing NBA second apron and re-sign James Harden.
Even more relevant: in a move that few people expected, it’s been reported that James isn’t prioritizing money with his next team. He’s prioritizing his happiness. That’s a different concept in the NBA.

Should LeBron James actually come back to the Cavs?
