Trading Jaylen Brown isn't the only way the Boston Celtics can acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. Brad Stevens could match salaries by parting with a string of players, headlined by Derrick White and Sam Hauser, if they wanted to create a new big three with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
On paper, adding Giannis to a core including Brown and Tatum would be the ideal result. The Celtics would have three top-20 players on the roster, and would have one of the best trios in league history. However, in reality, a roster with three supermax players would cripple the Celtics' ability to round out the rotation with quality role players. Joe Mazzulla would be working with a shoestring rotation, and three superstars who will all need a high volume of touches.
With that in mind, the "Celtics Chronicle" podcast recently released an episode explaining why a move to form a new big three with Giannis, Tatum and Brown would be the wrong move for the Celtics. They focused on both the short-term issues that would arise, along with the long-term restrictions Boston would face when trying to round out the roster.
