Sorry with all the positive stuff going on, am I alone in wondering why Kenny King is the only guy on our roster who we can do this with?

When Wendell was playing before his ankle injury wouldn't he have fit the role too? How about Johnson?

I realize the combination of speed and power is why they like King I just wonder why if we had it ready for week 2 we had to wait for King to be healthy to use it?

This is what Kenny King does.

From the media guide:

...physical bull rusher constantly keeps legs churning...can play as a down lineman as well as drop back as a linebacker in pass coverage...(at Alabama)

My understanding is he played this position at Bama, and we installed it because he's here. I would think once we have some experience and success with this defense, we could perhaps cross train someone to cover in an emergency.

It sure as hell is fun to watch. Of course, only me and 20,000 of my closest friends have seen the Bama defense here in Arizona. That'll all change after this weekend.

I like the fact that coach Mac is trying new stuff. I hope he pulls a new rabbit out of his hat every week.

Do you think that will really change after this weekend, Lex? I sincerely hope so. What's the feeling in Arizona at the moment regarding the Cards winning streak, the SB coming in '08, and contract extensions? More postitive I hope. Or, at least less negative.

(Coach Mac in a Bullwinkle voice): "Hey Sully, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat..."

We all know how that ends (first it's a rhino, then it's something else, then something else unpleasant), I don't think he ever gets a rabbit.

CardsRep03-

I was only saying that the people here will get a chance to see the Cards on TV this weekend, and next. the only games on TV so far this year, have been the bad ones. Season ticket holders have been in the house for all three wins.

The feeling around town has been positive recently, albeit gaurded. These people have been down this road before, and it will take some more success for full fledged support to happen. I think if we win these next two games, the impact will be immediate, we COULD sell out the last three games, it's happened before.

If that happens, the fact that we've already locked up most of our free agents for next year, should boost season ticket sales for in 04, and get us started rolling into the new venue in 06.

Sounds like a plan.

My guess (and I haven't actually seen it used yet...looking forward to it this weekend) is that it is used only in a 3-4 base D (more room for him to work around in and the fact he played NT in college) and in that scheme Bryant is either out of the game of lined up at DE. Thus, if my theory is correct, then it is likely nobody even practiced it prior to this for the reasons Lex gives...King knew this very well.

Bama Terminology

Alabama U's symbol is Dumbo (or facsimile thereof - I think the mascot's name is "Bama").

In systems where teams let one dude float around to different spots, isn't he referred to as the "Elephant"? Anyone know if there's a connection between the Elephant position nickname and U of Alabama's mascot?
