In the first game of its final regular-season series against Kentucky, Texas softball finally got to enjoy a comfortable win.
After going a combined 3-6 in a trio if hard-fought series against SEC contenders Tennessee, LSU and Oklahoma, the No. 5 Longhorns (43-9, 14-8 SEC) cruised to a 9-1 victory in the series opener against Kentucky Thursday at McCombs Field in a game shortened to five innings because of the eight-run mercy rule. The final series of the regular season resumes Friday at 11 a.m. after officials for both teams moved the game from its original start time of 6 p.m. because of the threat of inclement weather.
