As Longhorns football continues building for the future, they have been busy on the recruiting trail. On Wednesday, Texas offered talented cornerback Raheem Floyd. The St. Louis native is one of the top players in the 2027 class and would provide Steve Sarkisian’s secondary with a boost.
While the Longhorns have made their interest clear, they are facing competition. During the recruiting process, Floyd has received offers from Indiana, Wisconsin, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Michigan State, and Vanderbilt. That list should continue to grow the longer that Floyd is on the market.
Currently, the East St. Louis product is ranked as the 21st-best cornerback in his class by 247Sports. They also rank Floyd as the 7th-best player from Illinois and the 151st-best player in the nation. The high praise comes as no surprise considering that Floyd has been a human highlight reel during his high school career.
The Longhorns' recruiting target began making headlines as a sophomore. During the 2024 campaign, he recorded 76 total tackles and five interceptions. Regardless of the opponent, he made life difficult for opposing quarterbacks. That is one reason Floyd has piqued the interest of some of the nation's top programs.
If Floyd were to commit to Texas, he would be part of a 2027 class that is already held in high regard. The Longhorns have secured commitments from two four-star recruits in Easton Royal and Cameron Hall. They will be joined by three-star recruits JT Geraci, Cade Haug, Karnell James, and Ty Knutson. That group is ranked 11th in the nation by 247Sports.
Over the next few months, Floyd will be a name to watch as he weighs his options. The Longhorns hope Floyd's recruitment ends with him deciding to call Austin home for the start of his college career.
