Texas Longhorns redshirt freshman defensive back Wardell Mack was arrested early Wednesday morning in Travis County and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to online court records.
Mack’s bond was set at $3,000 for the Class B misdemeanor as the prosecutor rejected a second charge for possession of a controlled substance.
Through a school spokesperson, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian acknowledged awareness of the arrest.
“We will continue to monitor the legal process, and the situation will be handled internally at the appropriate time,” Sarkisian said.
In a statement to KXAN, Mack’s attorney declined to comment.
“Due to the pending nature of the case, we have no comment at this time,” Logan Campbell said.
The New Orleans-area product was a consensus four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, signing with the Longhorns after flipping from the Gators as the No, 149 player nationally and the No. 19 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
In four games as a freshman, Mack was credited with two tackles in addition to coming up with an interception in the season opener against Colorado State. Mack did not appear in Saturday’s loss to Ohio State.
