For a second straight year, landing a top catcher from the NCAA transfer portal has reverberated through the roster for the Texas Longhorns as Andrew Ermis entered the portal on Saturday after the commitment from Saint Mary’s Gaels standout Ian Armstrong.

I have officially entered the transfer portal from the University of Texas. I am very thankful for my time at Texas. Open to all opportunities.

The 6’1, 210-pounder has one season of eligibility remaining.

Ermis signed with Temple College out of San Antonio Reagan ranked as the No. 24 catcher in the state by Perfect Game.

As a freshman in 2024, Ermis hit .235 with four doubles, six home runs, 36 RBI, and 24 walks in 28 games before boosting his slash line to .338/.479/.588 with seven doubles, 10 home runs, and 41 RBI, stealing six bases and maintaining a solid strikeout-to-walk ratio of 36-to-19.

Ermis committed to Texas in late June after the addition of Notre Dame transfer Carson Tinney caused Cole Chamberlain to enter the portal, serving as Tinney’s backup in 2026, appearing in 14 games and making seven starts and batting .353 with a .571 on-base percentage. The six hits by Ermis were all singles, but he also drew eight walks and was hit by two pitches in 17 at bats.

Rising sophomore catcher Presley Courville entered the portal on Thursday, leaving incoming signees Brady Murietta and Jax Robinson to compete for the backup job in 2027.
