If Texas baseball wants to score a ninth consecutive victory to open the 2026 season, it will have to go through last year's College World Series runners-up.

The Longhorns will meet Coastal Carolina on Friday night at Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros, in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The game is the first matchup for Texas in the Bruce Bolt College Classic, which will also pit the Longhorns against Baylor and Ohio State.

Texas (8-0) has ripped through the opening portion of its slate, sweeping UC Davis and Michigan State while also winning midweek games against UTRGV and Lamar. The Chanticleers (6-2) come into this game having beaten Campbell in midweek action. Last weekend, Coastal Carolina beat VCU twice while dropping a decision to Illinois.

Ruger Riojas will take the ball for the Longhorns on Friday night. The righthander has allowed two earned runs in 11 innings of work while striking out 19 batters in two starts this year.

Cameron Flukey, who helped lead Coastal to the College World Series finals last year, has a stress fracture in his rib and won't be able to fill his usual Friday night role. The Chanticleers will instead give the ball to Luke Jones, who has a 3.36 career ERA in 17 appearances.
