Before Texas A&M baseball competes in a massive road series at Ole Miss this weekend, the Aggies are faced with a non-conference contest against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park.
With just two non-conference contests, including tonight's matchup against the Panthers, and two SEC series left before the conference tournament and postseason play begin, Texas A&M sits in second place in the league standings and eighth in the college baseball RPI. The Aggies fell from No. 4 to No. 8 in RPI after the program's first series loss since March 21, against Auburn on Saturday.
While the performance against the Tigers was lackluster at times, Texas A&M's electric lineup and solid pitching rotation performed well in Game 2 and the series finale. The Aggies rank third in the SEC with a .303 team batting average and 95 total home runs so far this season.
The most significant obstacle the Maroon and White face moving forward is maintaining their health. The status of freshman Nico Partida is still unknown after he suffered an injury during Saturday's doubleheader against Auburn. Second baseman Chris Hacopian remained in the DH spot for the Aggies in the series against the Tigers, as he continues to work his way back to full strength as well.
Every game for the rest of the regular season, including this week's matchup against the Panthers, will be integral in keeping the Aggies' odds of hosting postseason baseball in Bryan-College Station alive.
