No position group in the 2028 class has come off the board faster than quarterbacks.

Cass Tech (Detroit, MI) five-star quarterback Donald Tabron II became the newest name from that group to check his name off of the list.

Tabron announced his commitment to Texas A&M on Saturday, Aug. 15, choosing the Aggies over LSU and Oregon.

The 6-foot-3.5, 180-pounder is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 49 overall prospect in the 2028 cycle, the No. 3 quarterback and No. 4 player in Michigan. Tabron is ranked by the USA TODAY Sports 2028 composite ranking as the No. 27 overall prospect and No. 3 quarterback recruit.

With Tabron now committed, six of the seven quarterback prospects in the 2028 USA TODAY Sports composite ranking have announced their college commitments.

St. John's Prep (MA) 5-star Christopher Vargas committed to Ohio State on August 8, IMG Academy (FL) five-star Jayden Wade committed to Georgia last November, Benjamin Russell (AL) four-star Kingston Preyear committed to Alabama on July 10, American Heritage (FL) four-star Neimann Lawrence committed to Texas on Jun 25 and Hun School (NJ) four-star Lukas Prock committed to Indiana on July 23.

Tabron will be in his second full season as a starter for the Technicians. They're 23-1 with him leading the offense winning a state title in 2024 and finishing as a state runner up last season.

As a freshman he broke onto the scene completing 65% of his passes for 1,656 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Last season he saw a significant improvement in his game. Tabron finished 2025 with 2,819 passing yards to go along with 35 touchdowns through the air.

Maintaining a top-ranked 2027 class is key for Elko but it's never too early to look ahead to the 2028 cycle.

Tabron's commitment is just the second for the Aggies in that cycle. He joins a class that only featured Westgate (New Iberia, LA) three-star edge Chance Archangel.

Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is currently ranked as the No. 1 class in the cycle according to 247Sports. While it includes numerous five-star prospects, one of those five-stars is not a quarterback.

Lowndes (Valdosta, GA) four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson is their quarterback commit for the cycle. Tabron is Texas A&M's highest-rated quarterback commit since Conner Weigman, who was a five-star commit in the Aggies' historic 2022 class.
