A former New England Patriots starter could change teams before training camp.
The Houston Texans waived Sidy Sow, per Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle. Sow spent two seasons with the Patriots before playing for the Texans last season.
New England selected Sow with the No. 117 overall pick in 2023. The Eastern Michigan product started 13 games for Bill Belichick as a rookie before starting one of 12 games played for Jerod Mayo the following season.
Sow went from playing 772 snaps on offense in 2023 to 155 in 2024. He didn't stick around to see a third different Patriots head coach in as many years, as the organization released him in a batch of preseason roster cuts last August.
The 6-foot-6, 318-pounder played just nine snaps on offense for the Texans despite starting a game at guard. Sow ended the season on Houston's practice squad, and the organization signed him to a future/reserve contract in January.
Houston added more options at guard by drafting Keylan Rutledge in the first round and Febechi Nwaiwu in the fourth. The Texans also signed Evan Brown and three-time Pro Bowler Wyatt Teller after the Patriots ended their season with nine quarterback hits, three sacks and five takeaways in an AFC Divisional Round win.
