Another familiar face has returned to the Houston Texans.
According to reports, the Texans have signed defensive tackle Mario Edwards Jr. to a one-year deal. The Texans confirmed the move on Sunday afternoon and announced they've waived running back Evan Hull and offensive tackle Derrick Graham.
According to KPRC 2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the Texans are also expected to sign linebacker Sione Takitaki, who could replace linebacker Jake Hansen following his injury. A former third-round pick out of BYU, Takitaki has totaled 292 career tackles, two interceptions, four sacks and a forced fumble.
Edwards, a former second-round pick, started a dozen games for the Texans in 2024 despite serving a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL substance-abuse policy. He finished with 31 tackles and three sacks, eight quarterback hits and three tackles for losses and two pass breakups.
He re-signed a two-year deal last season and had 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 14 games for the Texans before suffering a torn pectoral. Edwards was released in the offseason when the team extended defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins on a new two-year deal.
This is the third defensive move made of the week for the Texans as Houston reportedly is signing former 2014 No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney to a one-year deal. Last season with the Dallas Cowboys, the 33-year-old recorded a team-leading 8.5 sacks, along with 10 quarterback hits and 12 tackles for loss.
