A North Texas native is bringing home Olympic gold.

Hannah Bilka, a 24-year-old from Coppell, helped lead Team USA to a 2-1 overtime victory over Canada in the women’s hockey gold medal game Thursday at the Milan Cortina Winter Games.

It marks the first time since the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics that the U.S. has defeated Canada for gold — and once again, it came in overtime.

Bilka did not score in the gold medal game, but she entered Thursday tied for the most goals of the tournament.

The forward has emerged as one of Team USA’s top offensive threats during the Games, helping power the Americans through the knockout rounds.

From Coppell to Olympic champion​


Bilka grew up in Coppell, a Dallas suburb, before playing college hockey at Boston College and Ohio State University.

She now competes professionally for the Seattle Torrent in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.

At 24, she is now an Olympic gold medalist.
