Now that the Washington Huskies have secured their top defensive tackle target in the 2027 class in four-star Jon Ioane, Jedd Fisch's coaching staff needs to build on its success and continue to stack talent along the interior of the defensive line.
Next on position coach Jason Kaufusi's list is four-star defensive tackle Tevita Nonu, a product of Seattle's O'Dea High School. Ranked as the No. 224 overall player and No. 24 defensive lineman by 247Sports, the 6-foot-3, 275-pound prospect is the ideal pairing for Ioane in the middle of the defense.
Ioane, who has the size and desired physicality to absorb double-teams, would free up Nonu to win in one-on-one scenarios, where he thrives.
"Has a projectable 6-foot-3.5, 275-pound frame and looks lean with plenty of room to pack on good weight," former 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins wrote in his evaluation. "Plays some as an edge rusher but predominantly lines up as a traditional defensive tackle, and that’s where we like him at the next level as well. Does a nice job splitting double teams and getting in the backfield. Shows excellent quickness, moves well laterally, is a very fluid athlete for his size. Has plenty of length, closes well on the football, and shows the burst and natural athleticism to chase down plays from behind."
As the Huskies continue to stack talent along the defensive line, after adding a trio of four-stars in the 2026 class in Derek Colman-Brusa, TI Umu-Cais, and JD Hill, getting Nonu to stay home is vital for Washington to be able to compete with the top teams in the Big Ten. Programs like Michigan and Ohio State have established themselves among college football's elite with a high-end rotation of talent to get after the quarterback, and adding Nonu would be another step in the right direction for Washington.
Thanks to a strong relationship with Kaufusi, the Huskies have also put themselves in a great spot to reel in Nonu's pledge. He's set to take an official visit to Montlake on June 5, his last of three scheduled trips after visits to UCLA (May 15) and Arizona (May 29) as Nonu sorts through his list of 17 offers.
