Terrion Arnold, a Tallahassee native and cornerback for the Detroit Lions, has been arrested and is expected to be charged with multiple felonies in connection with a robbery and kidnapping in Tampa, according to a press release from the Florida State Attorney's office in Hillsborough County.
The news was first reported by Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, and later confirmed in the press release. Arnold previously denied any connection to the legal case. He now faces charges that carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.
Arnold's friend, Boakai Hilton, is being accused of orchestrating the crimes against Arnold’s driver and two of the driver’s associates. Alongside Arnold and Hilton, Lyndell Hudson, Christion Williams and Freddie Hughes are "currently being held behind bars without bond in connection to the case," according to the press release.
In February, Arnold reported a theft of more than $200,000 in "personal items" from an Airbnb he rented in Largo. According to the press release, "Arnold is accused of coordinating and directing the codefendants to lure three men to an apartment where the victims were robbed, beaten, and held at gunpoint," in what is being described as a revenge plot.
"The State Attorney’s Office will file criminal charges against Detroit Lions player Terrion Arnold following his arrest in connection with a February robbery and kidnapping in Tampa. Arnold is facing multiple felony charges which carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.“No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence, or retaliation. This arrest is the result of months of investigative work and collaboration between the Tampa Police Department and our prosecutors. We will continue to pursue justice for the three victims by holding everyone accountable for their roles in this crime,” said State Attorney Suzy Lopez.
Arnold’s codefendants, Boakai Hilton, Lyndell Hudson, Freddie Lee Hughes III, and Christion Williams are currently being held behind bars without bond in connection to the case. Two other codefendants, Arianna Del Valle and Jasmine Randazzo, pleaded guilty to their roles in the crime during a court hearing on June 24. Randazzo was sentenced to four years in Florida State Prison, followed by six years of probation. Del Valle entered an open plea with the court, and sentencing will be set off to a later date. As part of the plea agreements, they are required to testify truthfully in any future proceedings related to this case."
Arnold’s path to success from a small Tallahassee private school to the first round of the NFL Draft wasn’t without challenges, according to past reporting in the Tallahassee Democrat.
He changed Tallahassee high schools, fractured his ankle, thought basketball might be his primary sport over football, and did not become a full-time starter at Alabama until midway through the 2022 season.
Still, Arnold never wavered in his commitment to excel.
“If you say something to him, he’s going to remember it, exactly,” family friend and personal trainer Travis Norton said. “He’s a guy motivated by greatness.
"He wants to make a statement that lasts forever.”
Arnold became one of Tallahassee’s highest selections in the NFL Draft when the Detroit Lions moved up five spots in the first round to select Arnold with the 24th overall pick. He also became St. John Paull II Catholic High School’s first athlete to be selected in the NFL Draft.
As of 2024, Arnold remained in contact with former and current coaches, serving as a mentor for the football team’s "Big Brother, Little Brother" program, and he built respectful, lasting friendships during his time at the school in the guidance and custodial departments.
Arnold, a 5-star defensive back, the Tallahassee Democrat's All-Big Bend Defensive Player of the Year in 2020 and basketball star at JPII, signed with Alabama in February 2021 over SEC rivals Florida and Georgia. He had his JPII jersey retired by his alma mater in 2024.
“Character,” former JPII football coach Ed Hill said of Arnold’s best quality in 2024. “If he says he’s going to do something, he’s going to do it. And he’s going to outwork anyone you put in front of him.”
