The Australian Open quarter-finals are now set in the women’s and men’s draws, as the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz have found out their fate.
Carlos Alcaraz is set for a much-anticipated clash with hometown hero Alex de Minaur, which will surely pack out the Rod Laver Arena.
Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, faces a potential banana skin against Ben Shelton, while Aryna Sabalenka faces talented American teenager Iva Jovic.
The quarter-finals of the Australian Open have seen the sport produce a remarkable statistic that has not been repeated before in the Open Era.

The top seeds’ impressive at the Australian Open
For the first time in Open Era history, the six top seeds in both the Women’s and Men’s Singles have reached the Quarter-Final.
Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic, Lorenzo Musetti, and Alex de Minaur have all qualified for the quarter-finals as the top six seeds.
All of the men are seeded in the quarter-finals this year, with eighth seed Ben Shelton and 25th seed Learner Tien also in the last eight.
In the women’s draw, the top six seeds are Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Elena Rybakina, and Jessica Pegula.
Much like the men’s quarter-finals, the other two players are seeded. 12th seed Elina Svitolina and 29th seed Iva Jovic are the other two players.
Who John McEnroe is backing to win the 2026 Australian Open
John McEnroe can’t see anyone but Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner winning the men’s Australian Open title.
The American icon revealed to TNT Sports: “Winning a Grand Slam is incredibly hard – it doesn’t happen often. If anyone can win one, it’s Sinner or Alcaraz, who’ve dominated the last couple of years.”
On the women’s draw, McEnroe stuck his neck on the line by opting for world number five Elena Rybakina.
“I would go with Rybakina. She looks really dangerous; if I had to pick one person I would have to go with her.”
Rybakina has not won a Grand Slam event since her maiden victory at Wimbledon in 2022.
