Two national polls have Tennessee softball ranked as the No. 1 team in nation.

The Lady Vols rose to No. 1 in the Softball America and USA Softball polls after sweeping Auburn. They also own series wins on the road against both Texas, which was ranked No. 1 at the time, and Oklahoma, which was ranked No. 2 at the time.

Tennessee is ranked No. 4 in the NFCA Top 25 and No. 3 in D1 Softball's rankings. The Oklahoman College Softball Super 16 has UT at No. 3.

The Lady Vols will have another chance to improve their ranking – and NCAA tournament seeding – with a midweek matchup against No. 19 Clemson (37-12) at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium on April 22.

Tennessee owns series wins against then-No. 13 Georgia and No. 17 Mississippi State in addition to the wins over the Longhorns and Sooners. UT also beat then-No. 16 Duke in a midweek matchup in March.

The Lady Vols have two more regular-season series. They'll face No. 16 Ole Miss on the road April 25-27 and then host Texas A&M, which is ranked No. 1 in the NFCA poll, May 1-3. There's a possibility that Tennessee will play the Aggies for the SEC regular-season title, which the Lady Vols have won the last two seasons.

Junior pitcher Karlyn Pickens (18-4) leads Tennessee's pitching staff with a .96 ERA, which ranks third in the nation. She has thrown 185 strikeouts in 138 innings pitched with only 41 walks. She has held opposing hitters to a .158 batting average. Pickens ranks No. 5 in the country in hits allowed per seven innings (3.91), and sophomore pitcher Sage Mardjetko ranks No. 9 (4.01).

Redshirt sophomore Taylor Pannell has followed up her All-SEC first team performance last year with an even better offensive showing this season. She leads UT's offense, hitting .449 with 14 home runs, 51 RBIs, 45 runs scored, 10 doubles and an .890 slugging percentage.
