Westview senior running back Asa Barnes announced his commitment to Tennessee football during a Rivals Youtube live stream on July 29.
Barnes, a 3-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite, is ranked as the No. 22 recruit in Tennessee and the No. 36 running back nationally in the Class of 2027.
Barnes earned Jackson Sun All-West Tennessee second team honors in 2025, rushing for 1,208 yards and 25 touchdowns on 146 carries and adding 27 catches for 567 yards and six TDs. He and the Chargers went 14-0 and won the TSSAA football Class 3A state championship over Gatlinburg-Pittman.

Barnes' quarterback, Graham Simpson, is a 4-star and the No. 15 QB in the Class of 2028. Simpson, the younger brother of former Alabama and current Los Angeles Rams quarterback Ty Simpson, won Mr. Football in 2025 after throwing for 3,565 yards and 43 touchdowns.
This is the second straight running back recruit for the Vols after UT coach Josh Heupel secured the commitment of five-star running back David Gabriel Georges over Ohio State and Ole Miss on July 22. The Chattanooga Baylor School standout is the No. 2 running back in the 2027 class nationally and No. 10 overall player.
