Willis Tucker is one of four Tennessee football players who have their jersey number retired by the program after being killed during World War II.

Tucker (1918-44), a center for the Vols, wore No. 61 from 1939-40 when he played under head coach Robert Neyland.

He had his jersey number retired on Sept. 9, 2006 during Tennessee's, 31-30, victory over Air Force at Neyland Stadium. He, Clyde Fuson, Rudy Klarer and Bill Nowling had their numbers retired during the game against the Falcons.

Tucker lettered in football and competed on Tennessee's track and field team. He graduated from Knoxville High School and enlisted in the Army in Oglethorpe, Georgia. Tucker served in the 12th Infantry Regiment and Fourth Infantry Division.

Nowling wore No. 32, Klarer No. 49, and Fuson No. 62 for the Vols.

No. 61 was last worn at Tennessee by defensive tackle Gordon Roberts in 1985.
