Dback Jon you have any info?

Report: UNM to hire Illini offensive coordinator

A Website is reporting that the University of New Mexico has selected Illinois offensive coordinator Mike Locksley to be the school’s new head football coach.

ESPN.com reports that Locksley has agreed to take the position.

A spokesperson for UNM athletics said on Monday morning that any announcement is premature.

If named, Locksley will succeed Rocky Long who resigned following the season after leading the Lobos for 11 years.

The Website reports that Locksley has 17 years of collegiate coaching experience.

That would be a great hire for New Mexico - and a bit suprising, as Locksley has been rumored for "bigger" jobs.

Considered the genius behind Illinois' BCS Bowl run last year. For Illini fans, it was a question of how long we could keep him, not that he would stay.

Seems to be a done deal. I hope he can bring recruits into Albuquerque.

UNM to name Locksley as Long's successor

Mike Locksley's holidays just got a lot brighter.
According to ESPN, Locksley, who was previously Illinois' offensive coordinator, will succeed Rocky Long as UNM's head football coach.
Long resigned on Nov. 17 after the Lobos went 4-8 overall and 2-5 in the Mountain West Conference.
Locksley is in his fourth season as Illinois' offensive coordinator. While at Illinois, he was named the No. 5 recruiter in the Big Ten by Sports Illustrated.
Locksley will become only the fourth African American head coach in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Sources said a news conference is planned for Tuesday at 3 p.m. to announce Locksley's hiring.
